COURSE TITLE (12) Revelation of Jesus (Sem. 1)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is Sacred Scripture, the inspired Word of God, composed of the Old and New Testaments. By studying the books of the Bible, their authorship, historical significance, major themes, and salvific truths, students will learn about salvation history, from the story of creation, the Exodus event, the conquest of the Promised Land, and the formation of the Kingdom of Israel to its fall. Students will also deepen their understanding of God’s covenant with the Chosen People and the laws given to them through Moses.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is the person of Jesus Christ, both fully human and fully divine. Students are introduced to the mystery of the Son of God and the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. By knowing Jesus through the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John, students will grow in their understanding of the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith as shown in his earthly mission and ministry, and discover who Jesus is calling them to be today.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is God’s work of saving and reconciling humanity to Himself, beginning with the mystery of the Incarnation, God becoming human in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, to the redemption that Jesus won for us through the Paschal Mystery. Students explore the many ways humanity shares in the salvation that God offers in the hope of growing as faithful disciples.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is the Church, founded by the early apostles of Jesus Christ, who continued His ministry, inspired and guided by Him through the Holy Spirit. Students will deepen their understanding of the Church as the community of believers, the people of God, and the living Body of Christ, and discover ways to become an enlightened witness to and member of the community.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course is the sacraments of the Catholic Church, understood as efficacious signs of God’s grace, instituted by Jesus Christ, and real encounters with Him. Students will grow in their appreciation of each of the seven ritual sacraments, from Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, to Matrimony, in terms of its biblical roots, essential elements, symbolic words and actions, requirements, and effects.

COURSE TITLE (56) Life in Jesus Christ (Sem. 2)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of the course is Catholic Morality, the study and examination of human actions through the lens of Catholic moral principles based on biblical and Church teachings, such as the Sermon on the Mount, particularly the Beatitudes. Students will deepen their understanding of God’s gifts of freedom and reason, the relationship between conscience and the law, the effects of sin on human actions, and the process of moral decision-making. The course ends with an exploration of the Ten Commandments and their implications for our lives today.

COURSE TITLE (74) Christian Life (Sem. 1)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course focuses on Catholic Social Teaching, a body of doctrine that teaches that working for justice is an essential part of preaching the Gospel. Students will identify the major themes of the Church’s social doctrines and examine historical and current situations of injustice informed by them. Students will think critically about social justice issues such as respect for life, human rights violations, poverty, the environment, etc. and how they dialogue with Church teaching. The course includes an in-depth analysis of papal encyclicals and pastoral letters. Students who meet eligibility requirements may opt for Union Catholic’s dual-enrollment program, which earns college credits for the course completed at UC. Registration information will be provided.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course focuses on the growth of the human person in the context of our Catholic identity. Students are encouraged to project themselves into the future in terms of lifestyle choices, possible ministry, and mission in life. They are guided to see their lives interwoven with the rest of the Christian community and encouraged to commit themselves to a life of service to others. They are introduced to the three vocations of single, married, and religious life, each with its own set of challenges and rewards. Those students who meet eligibility requirements may opt for Union Catholic’s dual-enrollment program, which will lead to college credits for the course completed at UC. Registration information will be provided.
